Vote 100

Her knowledge, experience, patience and perseverance are just some of the reasons why programme manager Jane Chiltonfrom Group Technology has been nominated for our Vote 100 campaign.
Project manager Ruth Critchley, from security and service delivery projects, said: ‘It has been an enormous pleasure to be part of Jane’s team this year. I have enormous respect for Jane - her knowledge, skillset and work ethic are simply outstanding and should be recognised as such.
‘Jane has given me the opportunity to do things I haven’t had much experience in, giving me the chance to improve my skills, knowledge and experience. I very much appreciate this opportunity to develop further and become more rounded in my skills.
‘I have watched carefully as Jane has mentored one of our graduates. She has been very encouraging and supportive in helping them in their development. It’s a tricky task to get the right balance between giving someone opportunities to learn, grow and sometimes make mistakes while also not giving them work which requires experience they do not yet have. Jane has been amazing in this area, finding opportunities for growth without endangering team delivery. I have been wowed with her patience and perseverance.
‘Jane is outstanding at leading by example. She never asks others to do something she wouldn’t do herself. She works extremely hard and this encourages her team to do the same and earns the respect of everyone. There’s a reason she gets called ‘Ma’am’ by one of the project managers!
‘She has a great sense of humour, finding the lighter side when the pressure gets intense. She never allows the pressure to get to her, but instead finds ways to prioritise the most important tasks and share the load across the team.
‘Jane has an astonishing work rate and can get through a large number of different items very quickly. I don’t know quite how she does this. But I hope that if I watch her carefully a bit of her magic will rub off on me and I can up my work rate too.’
‘I started working at Royal Mail as a graduate,’ said Jane. ‘Throughout my time here I’ve worked in several different business functions before finally settling in the Technology function in Service Delivery.
‘I have a great team and I love my job because people care about me as a person and about my professional growth. Working in Programme Management has daily challenges and issues and no two days are the same – something which really keeps me on my toes.
‘Technology is always changing and evolving and I’m lucky enough to get front row seats watching the process of a simple set of requirements grow into fully fledged changes to our infrastructure supporting our business 24/7, 365 days a year.
‘Every day is different and it’s a constant adventure.’
