Twenty Years

Cover manager Neil Parker from Welwyn Garden City delivery office has had his biography, Twenty Years published.
Twenty Years is a book about the first 20 years of Neil’s working career. Covering the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s, Neil’s workplace stories offer a time capsule of changing attitudes along with some things that will never change.
Tales of politics, both office and sexual , jostle with anecdotes about strange colleagues and stranger customers, fast friendships and brief encounters, and the fun to be had both after work and when the manager wasn’t looking.
Having initially worked as a postman for seven months, Neil then spent 10 years on the Post Office counter as a postal officer. After leaving the Post Office, Neil worked as a manager in various Logistics functions for almost 30 years before coming back to Royal Mail last year.
‘I have always fancied myself as a bit of a writer and to that end, two years ago, I self-published a book about the first 20 years of my working career,’ said Neil. ‘Subsequently, I sent the manuscript off to a “proper” publisher and to my amazement they thought it worthy of putting out.
‘I don’t for one second think I am on to a best seller, but those that have read the book have all commented that it is entertaining, funny and interesting.
The Foreword to Twenty Years reads: ‘If you do read on from here, then I hope at least a few of the stories will make you smile…
‘It’s a great feeling being published,’ said Neil. ‘I’ll admit that when I opened the first copy and looked inside, it brought a tear to my eye. But then I am a soppy old sod!’
Twenty Years will be available from Thursday 27 September. To find out more, and to get your copy, visit: Austin Macauley Publishers at: www.austinmacauley.com.
