Vote 100

Celebrating our amazing Royal Mail women – Fiona Duce

Dedication, attention to detail and her ability to build strong relationships are just some of the reasons why Fiona Duce from HR Services has been nominated for our Vote 100 campaign.

Service manager Jackie Masterson from Birmingham mail centre, said: ‘Fiona has had an extensive career working her way up from a postwoman in the Shrewsbury area to her current role.

‘Over the course of her career Fiona has managed numerous direct reports and is currently line manager to six senior HR Service managers as well as 2nd/3rd line manager to more than 140 customer service advisors (of various grades) who provide pay, pensions, PSP, occupational health and advice and support services as well as the provision of independent case management investigations.

‘Fiona has been involved in a number of initiatives over the years including the introduction of attendance coaches to support the reduction in absences, the Christmas helplines for casual application to meet operational needs, policy development and deployment and the management of pension helpline provision and communications to support pension plan changes.

‘During these projects Fiona has maintained focus, attention to detail and communication skills while building strong working relationships with key stakeholders. She has an excellent eye for detail and will make balanced judgements based on the commercial needs of the business while never losing sight of the impact on her people. As a line manager she takes full responsibility for her teams’ outputs and is approachable when there is a need to discuss and seek solutions.

‘Fiona is a genuinely approachable and friendly individual who is clearly dedicated to her career and the business’ interests. This is not always recognised at her level hence this nomination.’

The diversity of my role can take me into every aspect of HR work and engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure we deliver the people management support services required for the business,’ said Fiona.

‘It’s a great role in that respect, as well as in terms of leadership and team management responsibilities. I have an experienced and capable team with a strong service orientation. They adapt to meet business needs whether in response to new employment legislation, workplace agreements or policy change. Quite frankly I couldn’t do my job without my team, and I’m delighted to have been recognised by Jackie via the Vote 100 campaign.

‘I’ve worked in Royal Mail for over 30 years, and although some might say it’s a long time to work in the same business, it’s actually afforded me a number of varied roles, extensive learning and personal development, and a very rewarding career. I am very proud to be part of this great business, and I look forward to working on the opportunities and challenges ahead.’
