Farrah takes a step closer towards her dream

An aspiring young dancer is taking a step towards her dream career after receiving a Rising Stars bursary from the Post Office Orphans Benevolent Institution (POOBI).

Poobi provides bursaries for the families of colleagues who need financial support.

Fifteen-year-old Farrah Fawcett received the bursary to attend a course in contemporary dance in August at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. The bursary covers the course fees and her accommodation.

‘The course will be intensive with daily training, but this is what I need to prepare me for studying dance at college. I have been told by my dance teachers that summer courses are essential, both to develop new skills and to make connections for career development,’ said Farrah.

The next stage for Farrah will be to begin a full-time Foundation year in Contemporary Dance Performance, which starts in September.

‘While I am a student, I hope to become a member of the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland and then go on to study at a conservatoire,’ she said.

‘My ultimate goal is to become a professional contemporary dancer working for a touring dance company.’

Farrah’s father, Zak Fawcett, has been employed by Royal Mail for 18 years and currently works as a postman at St Andrews delivery office.
