Pedalling for Debs

Sponsored cycle ride - Sunday 23 September

Operations manager Andy Corr will be cycling around the Cheshire plain to raise money for his childhood friend and neighbour, Debra Goodman, who has multiple sclerosis.

The 50 mile sponsored cycle ride will take place on Sunday 23 September. Andy will be joined by 26 colleagues from Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport and Wigan delivery offices as well as Rochdale CWU area rep Mick Stewart, who will be driving a support van.

‘We just want Debs back home,’ said Andy. ’It’s a simple enough statement, but for Debs’s husband and family, it’s something that has proved out of their reach for almost 12 months now as she suffers from life-debilitating multiple sclerosis (MS)

‘Debs is currently being cared for at the nearby Dove’s Nest care home in Newton Heath. Her life is a constant battle as she is fighting the third and most severe ‘primary progressive’ form of MS.

‘Debs’s dedicated husband Dale continues to struggle on, valiantly keeping the family home on Landsberg Road shipshape despite his work commitments, and making sure that 17-year-old twins Max and Ella are fed, clothed and of course, loved.

‘Thankfully, Debs was transferred to the Dove’s Nest care home in March this year, something Dale very much welcomed. He said: “It was killing me as Debs had lost touch with some of her friends because of the distance to and from Wardle. Dove’s Nest is just in Newton Heath though. The neighbourhood support team are great and anyone can now go and see her every night now if they wish. I go in the morning and take her a paper. We have a laugh for 10 minutes and then I go to work. I go again at dinner and then in the evening Debs has quite a few friends that see her.”’

Andy and the rest of the team are trying to raise funds and build Debs’s family an extension so that she can go home and live with her family. If you would like to help Andy fundraise you can visit his fundraising page here.
