Double tops

Our very own ‘Heart of Darts’ Chelmsford postwoman and semi-professional darts player Deta Hedman has been pretty busy of late, to put it mildly!
The England ladies’ side comprising of Deta, Fallon Sherrock and Lorraine Winstanley won 8-1 against Northern Ireland in the Six Nations Cup in Selsey, defending the title they won last year in Wales. Deta also reached the quarter-finals in both the BDO International Open and the Welsh Masters 2018 in Llanelli.
Last month, Deta featured on BBC2’s Newsnight programme to publicise Anita Corbin's ‘100 First Women Portraits’ exhibition at the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London.
To mark the anniversary of the centenary of women's right to vote as illustrated via our very own Vote 100 campaign, photographer and RCA alumna Anita Corbin showed her work in a special exhibition, ‘100 First Women Portraits’. The First Women exhibition is a 10-year project documenting 100 pioneering 21st century women who have achieved the landmark title of 'First Woman' across a range of disciplines including sport, media, military, faith, business, arts, music and politics.
‘This was all about 100 ladies who had a notable first,’ said Deta. ‘I was featured with Dame Betty Boothroyd and First London Fire Brigade Chief, Dany Cotton as well as a host of others.
‘My claim to fame was to be recognised as “the first woman to beat a man in a televised UK major open darts championship”. It was a very humbling experience to be featured amongst so many inspirational ladies.’
Three weeks ago in Luxembourg Deta achieved a hat trick of titles. On the Friday she won the ladies pairs with fellow England player, Maggie Sutton. On the Saturday she won the One80 Luxembourg Open singles for the third year running. And then on the Sunday she won the One80 Luxembourg Classic singles. It was then back to work on the Monday night! Is there anything Deta can’t do?
Deta is now also known as only the second ever female darts player to have played 50 times for England. Deta, we love you!
