In its Q2 earnings release, eBay Inc reported overall sales growth of 9% to $2.6 billion, with the number of active buyers up 4% overall to 175 million globally, including an additional 3m from its recently acquired Giosis’ Japan business.
The eBay marketplace contributed $2.1bn of revenue (up 9%), while StubHub revenues were up 4% to $246m, and Classifieds revenues grew 18% to $259m.
The company is rolling out its Guaranteed Delivery programme in the US and recently launched in Australia. To date, almost 300,000 sellers and 80m listings have been included in the programme, representing 5% of volume and with 95% order delivery accuracy.
Although eBay does not report its performance at a country level, CFO Scott Schenkel said it had a strong underlying performance in the UK and Australia, while it had seen a modest improvement in Germany.
In a call with investors, the company also said that its eBay Plus subscription service was now available in Germany and Australia. The loyalty programme is tailored to each market, for example Australia’s programme includes discounts with partner retailers as well as shipping on eBay. In Germany, it provides preferential access to deals and other benefits. The company said it is considering rolling the eBay Plus programme out to other markets.
