Vote 100

We’ve had an amazing response to our Vote 100 campaign so far, so please keep your nominations coming in. Over the next few months we will continue to profile 100 female colleagues who embody our values and demonstrate how Royal Mail Group can be a fantastic place for women to excel.
This week we profile work area manager Maria Sereno from South Midlands mail centre.
South Midlands early shift manager Lily Hemmens said: ‘Maria has shown great strength and development in her career path from postwoman, to workplace coach, deputy manager and substantive manager.
‘Since I met Maria 11 months ago, she has transitioned from a deputy manager role to a substantive work area manager and has led her team with a clear vision to succeed. Maria is always punctual and smiling and she takes great pride in her Tracked 48 work area, from sweeping the floor to engaging with her colleagues about our performance, starting every day with a huddle.
‘The greatest reward Maria bestows upon her team is giving them ownership of their performance and empowering them to get involved in huddles and lead Worktime Listening and Learning sessions. Maria encouraged and supported two colleagues to apply for deputy manager positions and helped them believe they could do it.’
‘I am very honoured to be recognised for the work I’ve been doing at South Midlands mail centre,’ said Maria. ‘It has been an eventful journey that I could have not taken alone and I am very grateful for the support network around me. I could not have achieved any of this without the help of my colleagues and the fantastic team I work with.
‘I became a workplace coach as I enjoy coaching others. Thisled me to become a pillar lead in World Class Mail, now known as continuous improvement. This role gave me more of an understanding of Royal Mail processes and sparked my interest in doing more.
‘I then applied to become a deputy manager and from that day on, I haven’t looked back. I now hope to continue my progression in Royal Mail and be the best I can be. By doing this I hope that I have empowered those around me to also achieve their best.’
