World Cup illustrates the diverse nature of our workforce

The drama continues to unfold at the most talked-about event of the year as the 2018 FIFA World Cup moves towards its climax.

Last month, 32 countries gathered in Russia to contest football’s biggest tournament and now just eight teams remain to fight it out to replace Germany as world champions.

Royal Mail has long been part of the fabric of the UK. We deliver to every address, regardless of the race, gender, sexuality, disability or religious beliefs of our customers. Our differences are valued and our workforce reflects our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

And much of the strength of our workforce comes from its diversity. Of the 32 nations who began the World Cup, 28 of them were represented among our workforce.

From the single Saudi Arabian colleague to the eight Colombians, and the 14 Swedes to the 72 French – and many of you have been cheering your country on.

Fiona Whyte, diversity inclusion project manager, said: ‘It is very exciting, although not surprising, to find that our multi-ethnic workforce reflects so many of the World Cup qualifying countries. It is this diversity in our workplace that keeps us so vibrant and energised.

‘The World Cup gives us a fabulous opportunity to recognise and celebrate our own diversity and the richness it brings to Royal Mail.’

Ahead of each of the last-16 fixtures, we used social media to share which countries are represented among our colleagues and join the World Cup debate. Remember to follow us on Twitter by searching @RM_Courier and on Instagram @myroyalmailuk

We have a number of different groups, which celebrate our diversity. To find out more and get involved visit myroyalmail.com/diversity where you will find links to each of our six diversity steering group homepages.
