‘True innovators’

Double success at Motor Transport Awards 2018

Royal Mail and Royal Mail Fleet were recognised with two top awards at the Motor Transport Awards 2018.

For more than 30 years, the awards have been seen as a benchmark for excellence among UK road transport fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers and other innovators.

The awards focus on the heavy goods vehicle segment of the market, which is a key long-term development area for the business.

What we won:

  • Low Carbon Award – Royal Mail Fleet. This award celebrates operators who have made significant progress in reducing carbon emissions by improving the efficiency of their operation and/or by the use of alternative fuels and drive trains.
  • Fleet Van Operator of the Year – Royal Mail. This award celebrates organisations that are achieving outstanding standards of performance in professionalism, productivity, customer service, health and safety, training environment and well-structured apprenticeship schemes that suit the business needs.

Commenting on our Low Carbon Award, the judges said: ‘Royal Mail Fleet are true innovators and have smashed their own targets for carbon reduction four years earlier than planned.

‘They have an impressive record for environmental improvements in a whole range of vehicle types from electric cans to double deck trailers. This is an example of thought leadership and innovation beyond the norm’.

In regard to our Fleet Van Operator of the Year Award, the judges said: ‘Royal Mail is the UK’s largest fleet van operator and as such recognises its social responsibilities’.

Our ‘vision for zero harm health and safety culture’ and our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint was praised by judges, one of whom said: ‘Royal Mail has shown that even in a large unionised fleet, improvement can be made to work.’

Sue Whalley, CEO, Post & Parcels UK, said: ‘This is really great recognition for the work of the team and in particular what we have achieved with our electric vehicles.’

Mina Roopra, head of marketing, Royal Mail Fleet, said: ‘This is a great endorsement for Royal Mail as it recognises how we are setting the industry standard for fleet compliance and our adoption of cutting-edge technology.’
