Indoor Transformation
<< Back to the Operations Transformation microsite
Indoor transformation is a large programme of work looking at what we do indoors in our delivery and processing units today and seeing how we can re-envision prepping letters and parcels for the future.
As we know, with our customers increasingly moving things like their bills and medical appointments online, letters are in a structural decline. This is unlikely to change. However, the move online also brings new opportunities in parcels.
Online shopping is growing at a fast rate, and we need to set ourselves up, in both our physical spaces and our processes to accommodate for this.
Why do we need to transform our indoor spaces?
As our operations colleagues across the country see first-hand on a day-to-day basis, we’re not set up to handle the parcel volumes we’re currently seeing, let alone increased volumes in the future.
We know this increase in parcels, along with processes designed when we had far fewer parcel volumes, are creating cluttered and challenging work environments.
This has a knock-on effect on our quality of service. We need to change that for both our colleagues and for our customers.
What work is currently happening?
We currently have 3 main workstreams under Indoor Transformation:
- Upstream Efficiency: re-engineering upstream processes to make them as efficient as possible, supporting delivery teams to deliver a great service to customers.
- Delivery 2.0: looking at how we can more effectively lay out our delivery offices.
- Parcel Sortation: utilising technology to increase the opportunity to sort parcels in a more efficient way for walks
Watch our series of videos to understand each workstream better.
