Awards and Achievements

We have a lot to be proud of when it comes to corporate responsibility. And, we have lots of awards and achievements to prove it.

Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards

We received the Lifetime Achievement Award for our outstanding contribution to payroll giving and the charities we support. Since launching the scheme in 1989, our colleagues have raised over £60 million for more than 1,500 different charities.

Breaking Barriers: Mental Health Award at The Prince’s Trust 2017 Corporate Employee Awards

We won the ‘Breaking Barriers: Mental Health Award’ for the work we have done with the Prince’s Trust addressing the growing concern of poor mental health in young people. Since we announced our partnership with the Prince’s Trust in 2016, we have been funding a mental health advisor role. The advisor is responsible for planning and implementing improvements to the way the charity supports young people with mental health issues.

Carbon Trust Triple Standard

In 2017-18Royal Mail retained triple certification from the Carbon Trust, recognising our efforts to measure, manage and reduce our environmental impact through carbon, water and waste.

Best Partnership at the 2016 CorpComms Awards

Our work with Missing People has been recognised at the prestigious CorpComms Awards. The accolade is given to a partnership between a business and a charity that delivers outstanding community benefits. The judges said: ‘This is a truly stand out partnership. It is extremely clever, relevant and built out of insight.’

PostEurop 2016 CSR Coupe de Coeur for Society Award

Our partnership with Missing People was also celebrated at the PostEurop 2016 Awards, winning the CSR Coupe de Coeur award which recognises best practice in corporate social responsibility in the postal sector.

Best Corporate Partner at Life After Stroke Awards

In 2016 we were named Best Corporate Partner at the Stroke Association’s Life After Stroke Awards. This award recognises the strength of our partnership and the incredible generosity of our people.

Global sustainability leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices

As one of the top-scoring companies in the Transportation and Transportation Infrastructure Industry, we were awarded a Silver Class Sustainability Award for our sustainability performance in the 2016 Dow Jones Sustainability Index.  Royal Mail is listed in both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index.

The Platinum Payroll Giving Quality Mark

We hold the “Platinum” Payroll Giving quality mark. This award recognises our commitment to support and encourage a culture of giving in the workplace, by promoting Payroll Giving to the very highest standard.

Guinness World Records

Early in 2012 we broke the Guinness World Record for the most registered charities supported by a payroll giving scheme. Our payroll giving scheme began in 1989 and you have raised more than £53 million and supported over 1,300 charities across the UK. That’s an incredible achievement.

In June 2012, we achieved another Guinness World Record for the most amount of money raised at a company quiz. We raised over £10,000 for Prostate Cancer UK. This was matched by the business, meaning over £21,000 went towards helping the charity improve the lives of men and their families throughout the UK.

Economic and social contribution

It’s also important to remember the major contribution economic and social impact we make to the UK. We rank as the 7th largest of all UK corporations in terms of our contribution to the UK economy. As one of the UK’s largest private employers, one in every 194 employees works for Royal Mail. We provide jobs where there are generally fewer and, through this, make a significant contribution to the distribution of wealth across the UK.
