Replacing business SIM cards
New EE SIM cards replacing existing BT ones
Replacement of Royal Mail business mobile phone SIM cards
To help Royal Mail save on the cost of telephony and data, we are shortly starting a programme to replace existing SIM cards in all mobile phones with a new EE SIM card. As such, we need all users to help by verifying their details with BT / EE.
Who will get a new EE SIM card?
All employees who currently have a business mobile phone.
What do I need to do?
If you currently have a business mobile phone, look out for an email and a text message from “RMG EE SIM”. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU TAKE ACTION WHEN YOU RECEIVE THE EMAIL & TEXT MESSAGE TO CONFIRM YOUR DETAILS.
- The email will be sent to your work email address, which will contain a link to the survey you need to complete
- The text message will be sent from “RMG EE SIM”
- Complete all required fields on the survey and submit it
- Once your details have been validated, you will be sent instructions on what to do with your EE SIM card when you receive it, what to do with your old BT Mobile SIM card and contact details should you have any problems or queries.
- You should keep the email and instructions safe so you can easily refer to them once you receive your new EE SIM card.
When is this happening?
The new EE SIM cards will be mailed to your home address by BT over the next two to three months. You will be notified by text message of more specific timings as you near your switchover date.
What if I’m on maternity, paternity or long-term leave?
You will be excluded from the phased migration. Upon your return to work, please contact the BT Helpdesk and we will arrange an EE SIM card to be sent to you.
What if I’m leaving Royal Mail?
Please complete the survey that you will be sent via email / text message and indicate that you are leaving Royal Mail in the appropriate field.
What if I don’t receive a new EE SIM card?
You will be sent several text messages and / or email communications from BT (EE) during the process. One of these communications will check to confirm if you are in receipt of your EE SIM card. If you have not received your SIM when you get the communication from BT (EE), you should contact the email address or telephone number given to advise this so we can send out a replacement.
What Size SIM card do I need?
All EE SIM cards are multi SIM cards, which mean that there are three sizes you can choose from… Standard, Micro and Nano. The SIM card you need will depend on your device. If you are using an iPhone, you will need to use the Nano SIM. If you break out the wrong size from the SIM holder, you can clip this back into its larger size.
If you have an iPhone XS or above, you will be sent an eSIM. Upon receipt, you will need to scan the QR code within the pack and when it’s recognised, confirm by pressing “Add Data Plan”.
My SIM card does not fit into my device
Please read above. If you are unsure about which size to use, please email rmgmigration@royalmail.com
My SIM card does not work
Please ensure the SIM card fits properly into the SIM tray of your device. If, when inserted, your device does not display the EE Network Identifier or show any signal, please remove the SIM card and try again. If the problem still persists, please contact rmgmigration@royalmail.com
Do I have to keep my current number or can I change it?
Your number is a Royal Mail business mobile and, as such, you will need to retain this. Your number will be transferred to the new EE SIM. You will receive a text message with your allocated port date from BT / EE.
Will anything change?
No. Your number is just being moved to the EE network. You will still have access to the same products / services as you did on BT Mobile.
What do I do with my old BT Mobile SIM card?
SIM cards are classed as waste electrical and electronic (WEEE) and should not be thrown away with your normal rubbish. They’re made up of hazardous substances that could be bad for the environment and human health if they are not recycled correctly. The Government has a legal requirement to minimise the unsorted waste disposal of WEEE and to maximise its separate collection and environmentally-sound management.
ONLY after your RMG number has ported to EE, please snap or cut through your BT Mobile SIM card and dispose of it carefully and help to protect our planet.
Does this affect PDAs?
No, the SIM swap is only for mobile phone users and does not include PDAs.
