All hands on deck

Preparing for Peak

To support our colleagues on the frontline during our busiest time of year, we’re recruiting an army of 16,000 temporary workers to help sort the mail as we expect an increase in the number of online shopping parcels.

The temporary positions include over 8,000 sorting roles in England, around 1,200 roles in Scotland, 500 roles in Wales and 500 roles in Northern Ireland which will be located in 37 of our Mail Centres across the nation from late October through to early January 2024. This will ensure there is enough support to cover Black Friday and Cyber Monday and of course, our Peak towards Christmas. This includes Parcelforce Worldwide, as we’re also recruiting additional drivers and indoor workers.

‘By planning ahead and hiring more people, we are well-prepared to handle the expected increased festive mail and parcels and deliver the high standards of service our customers expect from Royal Mail’ said Grant McPherson, Chief Operating Officer.

Our recruitment teams are still working hard to onboard our temporary colleagues, we recently shared the ‘Christmas 2023 Helping Hands’ campaign which will support our delivery network.
