Vote 100

We’ve had an amazing response to our Vote 100 campaign so far so please keep your nominations coming in. Over the next few months we will continue to profile 100 female colleagues who embody our values and demonstrate how Royal Mail can be a fantastic place for women to excel.
This week we profile head of fleet maintenance, Sally Warren.
Executive assistant Sally Hutson said: ‘I’ve known Sal for 18 years now and I’m constantly amazed at her energy, enthusiasm and positivity. I have no idea how she does it.
‘One of the things I’ve learned most from Sal is emotional intelligence - she has it in spades. She always looks beyond first impressions and makes a massive effort to get to know everyone she meets and what makes them tick. I’ve seen her join so many dots and solve so many problems because of what she understands about individuals. She’s a bit like a detective – it’s really fascinating.
‘Nothing is ever too much trouble for Sal and she always has time for people. She will always sing the praises of individuals who leave a particular impression on her, which is really endearing and gets people noticed amongst the senior leadership population.
‘Sal has worked in some tough, very male orientated environments. I met her in vehicle services and whilst never in the same management line, I have rubbed alongside her in other roles, such as group procurement.
‘I had the pleasure of working closely with Sal in Logistics, where we both started with very little knowledge of this part of the business and learned together. I was definitely carried along by her infectious enthusiasm. She will always explain things clearly and recognise a job well done. There’s no such thing as a problem, just a challenge, and she loves a challenge!
‘Sal is ambitious and competitive, but that doesn’t stop her being a really lovely person. In her current role she is championing the technician apprentices. She has done plenty of coaching over the years and she has been a mentor to many. In addition, she will always make time to present to groups such as Springboard. She is definitely the best at what she does.’
‘I am thoroughly enjoying leading the maintenance team in Royal Mail Fleet,’ said Sally. ‘It is such an exciting time as we expand our commercial business and transform our culture. Fleet is full of people who are really passionate about what we do, which makes my job so much easier.
‘Colleagues in other parts of the business tell me that it ‘feels different’ in Logistics and particularly in Fleet. I believe our culture of collaborative working, rather than blaming others or managing large egos is the main difference.
‘In particular in Fleet, our absolute focus on customer satisfaction and making the right commercial decisions to grow revenue and deliver our profit targets certainly helps us all focus together on what is really important.’
