Wendy Walker, a postwoman from Oakham, has been crowned Community Champion at our Chairman's Awards for Excellence.

The honour is is given to people who make a real difference in their local community.

She was nominated by numerous colleagues for her outstanding fundraising efforts over the past 10 years.

Fit and able

Bungee jumps, white-water rafting, marathons and swimathons, Wendy has done them all, for various good causes.

‘I raise money for five different charities that mean a lot to me,' she says.

These are The Anthony Nolan Trust, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Help for Heroes, Macmillan Cancer Support and her local Air Ambulance.

Wendy adds: ‘My mentality has always been that as long as I'm fit and able, I should do what I can to help those less fortunate.'

She was very much looking forward to picking up her award at the ceremony and meeting one of her idols.

‘I'm so excited to meet Sally Gunnell at the event, although I'm not looking forward to wearing a dress and heels!'
