Heart s’topper’ for BHF

Earlier this month, colleagues from Northallerton Delivery Office decided to support our partnership with British Heart Foundation (BHF) and raise funds - by decorating the postbox outside the delivery office, with a very apt and beautiful postbox topper.
Postie Nicki Hall enlisted the help of her sister to make the cover for the box. She then reached out to her local community and more widely on social media, with a request for donations of knitted hearts - in memory of someone they love - to attach to the cover.
Yarn bombers up and down the country kindly obliged - including the Knitting Nana of Northallerton, and the Knitting Ninjas of Bedale - with over 300 hearts arriving, many with messages remembering loved ones who’d lost their life to heart conditions.
One lady wrote: ‘great idea, my daughter died in 2012 of a massive heart attack and I would like to donate some knitted hearts in her memory’.
The finished box was unveiled by Lisa, the manager of the local BHF charity shop, together with kids and staff from the local school, who’d produced a beautiful display of hearts for the windows behind the postbox.
The wonderful project even made Darlington news – link here.
Nicki said: ‘I absolutely love getting the community involved, but this project has involved people from right across the country. At the unveiling I had tears in my eyes seeing everyone’s faces filled with smiles’.
