Recognition: Rowland Hill
While our posties were working flat out to deliver to our customers during the pandemic, Rowland Hill Fund staff were working flat out to deliver support to our posties, writes Zoe Walker.
The Fund’s mission – to help postal people in need with practical, proactive support – was tested to the max during the pandemic.
‘What an incredible year it has been – like no other,’ said Dale Haddon, Chair of the Rowland Hill Fund, when speaking at the charity’s recent online Recognition Event.
‘It has been incredibly challenging for everyone associated with Royal Mail and the Fund. More people have found themselves in difficult circumstances and needing help. We have responded and met that need.’
In 2020/21 the Fund supported 487 beneficiaries – an increase of 51% on the previous year. And it awarded £824,000 in grants – a 98% increase on the previous year.
One of the colleagues the Fund was able to help was Chris Mauger, who received support from the Rowland Hill Fund after his son, Stefan, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
The Fund helped Chris to pay his council tax and mortgage when he was facing financial uncertainty. Click here to see Chris’s story on RMtv. Click here to see Chris’s moving speech at the Recognition Event.
Speakers at the recent Awards and Recognition Event included Dale Haddon, Chair of the Rowland Hill Fund, Dr Shaun Davis, director of compliance and sustainability for Royal Mail and Emma Eade, employee engagement deployment manager for Royal Mail.
Royal Mail CEO, Simon Thompson, was unable to attend in person, but sent a message of support. Click here to see Simon’s message.
