Alongside the Government announcement yesterday, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced that the asymptomatic testing offer is being extended to the end of July, including the workplace collect programme.
Why is it important to continue with lateral flow device (LFD) testing?
While the vaccine rollout is the best form of protection, we need to continue twice-weekly testing to identify cases of coronavirus. Around one in three people with Covid-19 don’t have symptoms, don’t realise they’re infected, and can spread the virus without knowing it.
Rapid testing is designed to encourage everyone to test and report twice a week, to catch cases early in people who don’t have symptoms and help break the virus transmission chain, reducing the number of people infected.
This is in addition to the Covid-19 controls of following: hands – face – space, which is regular washing and sanitising hands, wearing a face mask, maintaining social distancing, ventilation of indoor spaces and high levels of cleaning in vehicles, on equipment and throughout the workplace.
