Who We Are – Steve

Parcelforce hub operative Steve Allsopp, from Parcelforce National Hub, Coventry, loves working for Parcelforce Worldwide.
Our Who We Are campaign celebrates our key workers - connecting communities, before and during the Covid-19 pandemic – and beyond as well. Over the coming months, we’ll be recognising people at the heart of our business, across the pipeline, as they describe who they are in their own words.
We want to receive nominations from around the Group for deserving colleagues to be recognised in this way. Send yours to groupcommunications@royalmail.com.
Look out for coverage of Who We Are on RMtv, in Courier, your unit’s tv screens and, of course, here on myroyalmail.com. Indeed, you can see Steve in this episode of RMtv.
Steve’s current role involves dealing with unlabelled parcels and parcels belonging to other couriers.
‘We return them back to the sender,’ said Steve. ‘The job of contract returns means everything to me. I started it on my own, and now there’s four of us.
‘Without the four of us in the team, we couldn’t do our job as well as we do. We’re now doing approximately 2,500-3,000 returns per month.
‘We’re all dedicated to doing the job well and providing a great service on behalf of the company. Supporting the customer is everything. At the end of the day, this business doesn’t survive without our customers. Helping the customer out is what we’re all here for.
‘One of the things we’ve done through using our own initiative is to introduce dedicated logs for customers such as Screwfix and Nisbets, to help reject claims.
‘Being able to come into work, do the job, and actually have some semblance of a normal life, has actually helped to make working through the pandemic slightly easier.
‘We’ve definitely all stuck together as a team - we’ve worked together really well and made sure that everyone is safe.
‘I love working for Parcelforce. This is the best job I’ve ever had and I’m extremely proud to work here. It’s a great company to work for and I consider it as a great public service.
‘I certainly think Parcelforce and Royal Mail can work together and become even stronger within the market. We definitely need to change though. The market is changing, and we all need to do our part to make it a successful business.
‘I’m extremely proud to be recognised in such a positive way for some of the good things I’ve done – I’ll remember that for the rest of my life.’
