To celebrate the gold medal wins of Helen Glover and Heather Stanning in the women’s pairs rowing, and Bradley Wiggins in the cycling road men’s time trial, we have painted the first of our postboxes gold.
A postbox in Penzance, Cornwall where Helen is from, Heather’s home town of Lossiemouth, Moray and Chorley in Lancashire where Wiggins lives, have all been painted gold this morning.
The face lifts have been completed amongst lots of media interest, as our positive press coverage of the dedicated Gold Medal stamps and postboxes continues.
We are painting one of our iconic red postboxes gold to celebrate every gold medal win by a Team GB member.
The UK is the first country to paint post boxes gold to celebrate Olympic and Paralympic gold medal wins. This is the first occasion in modern times when Royal Mail has changed the colour of its postboxes.
