More than 36,000 colleagues voted for Prostate Cancer UK in the employee survey held in April. Prostate Cancer UK is the UK’s leading charity working with men affected by prostate cancer and their families.
Our aim is to raise at least £2 million for Prostate Cancer UK (formerly known as The Prostate Cancer Charity). For every penny raised by colleagues, up to £1 million, Royal Mail will match it. Prostate Cancer UK will use the money you raise to recruit and train specialist nurses to care for men living with prostate cancer.
Overall, Prostate Cancer UK could benefit by at least £2million from Royal Mail by 2014 – a hugely significant amount. With £2 million, 50 nurses could provide care for around 44,000 men throughout the UK. We will also, for the first time, matched fund payroll giving for the Charity of the Year up to £100,000 a year.
Everyone’s a winner
As part of our ‘everyone’s a winner’ approach, Royal Mail is donating £50,000 each to the two other charities colleagues voted for: Alzheimer’s Society and Whizz-Kidz, as part of the Charity of the Year programme.
Once colleagues and Royal Mail have raised £2 million for Prostate Cancer UK, any funds you raise for either Alzheimer’s Society, Prostate Cancer UK or Whizz-Kidz will also be matched, penny for penny, by Royal Mail, up to £1 million in total. So, the sooner we hit our £1 million fundraising target for colleagues, the more Alzheimer’s Society and Whizz-Kidz will benefit.
This means each of the three charities will all benefit in a very substantial way, up to an additional £2million, including some of the money you raise being matched by Royal Mail.
Supporting all charities
Your fundraising counts for all charities. Royal Mail will match money you raise for all charities up to £200 a year per person. We also provide one-off grants to cover the costs of fundraising and volunteering events. So there are many opportunities for you to get involved and support your favourite charities.
